Junior High English

The Junior High English program is designed to meet the various needs of our children.  Students are exposed to the grammar and mechanics of writing through units devoted to specific themes.  The parts of speech and the mechanics of sentence writing are presented to encourage students to understand the why of word usage.

The students are exposed to writing through a wide variety of actual writing opportunities.  They write about theme-related content, high-interest literary selections and a wider range of school subjects while learning to put thoughts in order, develop concepts and make facts come alive.  They are guided to good writing by using the five stages of the writing process in a variety of necessary kinds of writing skills, such as narrative writing, personal writing, etc.

Students are also exposed to literature in each theme-based unit.  As reading stimulates and focuses thinking, students discover how much they know and thus become better writers.  As readers the students use what they read as an inspiration for their own writing.

Thus the Junior High program encompasses grammar and mechanics, writing and reading as the basis for good skills in English.
