Social Studies Club

The Social Studies Club was formed five years ago.  The concept for creating this club was to foster an interest in the area of Social Studies.  The club is open to all students in grades 6-7-8.

Various programs are used to create more interest in the area of Social Studies.  The students can take part in various types of Bingo, see videos about Social Studies topics, hear guest speakers, do projects or play games.

The club meets once a month for approximately 30 minutes.  On certain occasions additional time may be added depending upon the activity.  Mr. Richard Vomish is the sponsor for this club.

Social Studies Program

Grade 6 students study the Eastern Hemisphere. Various activities are used in our program. The students may be actively involved in projects ranging from themes of ancient civilization to current events. Students are encouraged to read books concerning social studies and use these sources in their project research.

Grade 7 students study United States history from the Age of Exploration to the Civil War. Students are encouraged to do various projects about U.S. history. Historical plays, educational games, historical bingo, and research papers are also incorporated into the program.

Grade 8 students study United States history from the Civil War to present day events. The U.S. Constitution is also taught at this level. The students must take and successfully pass both the U.S. Constitution and Illinois Constitution as part of their graduation requirements. In addition, students learn about local municipal government, do projects, reports, and research papers. Students are encouraged to pursue other areas of interest in the social studies curriculum.
