Dear Parishioners and Friends,
I greet all our parishioners, and our guests who perhaps are here in our church for the first time. My heartfelt greetings to all who are sick at home, in hospitals and in homes for the aged. Today’s Gospel according to St. Luke tells of Jesus’ visit in a synagogue in Nazareth, his hometown. The appearance of Jesus evoked anger and indignation among the listeners. They were even ready to hurl him down the hill on which their town had been built. Let us ask ourselves: Is our behavior, at times, similar to the behavior of the citizens of Nazareth? Do we unequivocally accept the teachings of the Church with humility regarding respect for the conception of life, abortion, euthanasia, contraception, the celibacy of priests, living in the sacrament of matrimony, conversion, and penance? Did we rebel, more than once, because this limits our freedom, is inconvenient, too difficult, or unfashionable? Just how often have we stifled the voice of God in our conscience and in our soul, going astray making our way toward the whispering of the wicked spirit?
This weekend in all the parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago we begin the appeal of Cardinal Francis George to make an offering or commitment toward the Annual Catholic Appeal. I encourage all to carefully observe the material contained in our bulletin and answer according to the dictates of your conscience.
The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is Thursday, February 11th, at 7:00pm in Borowczyk Hall. If anyone would like to be a member of the PPC and feels that by his/her presence, knowledge, and recommendations he can bring constructive inspiration to the PPC, please contact me in person or by telephone.
We are searching for a sponsor to install a video-projector system for showing films on a large screen in our Father Borowczyk Hall. The system with the installation will cost $4,000.00. Our school children as well as adults will profit from this system by watching numerous interesting and educational films. I hope that in the near future this generous person will be found.
On Sunday, February 7th at 2:45pm in the Handzel Center, classes will begin in social dancing, under the sponsorship of the Polish National Alliance. If anyone is a member of the PNA, the one-hour lesson will cost only $5.00; a non-member will pay $10.00. All information in English and Polish can be obtained at the time of the lesson or by calling 847-767-7578.
Children and adults who like to ice skate, should mark their calendars for Saturday, March 20th. That is when the Missionary Sisters invite you to McFetridge Sports Center Ice Skating Arena from 6:30 to 8:30pm. The Sisters will also be serving pizza and beverages. More information will soon be found in our bulletin.
May Jesus bestow every blessing to our birthday celebrants: Sister Ewa Biniek, the delegate of the Mother General; Jan Mleczko, our chief decorator; and Maria Majchrowska, our rectory hostess.
May Jesus bless us all and our dear guests who visited us today.
