Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Today we are offered the Gospel according to St. Luke which tells of a miraculous catch of fish in Lake Gennesaret. Simon Peter, James and John, witnessed the event, and were amazed, that when Jesus invited them to become fishers of men…”they left everything and followed Him.”
Each person who reveals his true calling and final destination is ready for these same decisions as were Peter, James and John. Ask yourself: Who is Jesus to me - is he someone who isvery close to me, who loves me and is loved by me; or someone distant, incomprehensible, inconvenient, difficult to accept? Think about it today. Think of your life on earth, which is very short and many times very difficult and sad. At the end of this life God and eternal happiness await you. Are you preparing for this meeting?
The theme for this year’s “Annual Catholic Appeal”is the phrase…”they left everything and followed Him.” It is an opportunity to make an offering towards the many programs of the Archdiocese of Chicago. All that we possess, that which we received from God, that for which we worked, we want to share with those in need. Let us not overlook this splendid occasion. Let us reply to the appeal of Cardinal Francis George and offer what we can afford. Cardinal George does not ask for himself, but for those whom he serves; for the needy; for those who need a basic education; for preparing deacons and priests who not only proclaim but live the Gospel. And for so many other various programs supported by the Archdiocese. Every offering is important and only with your cooperation can we accomplish much. This weekend the faithful will receive envelopes for the “Annual Catholic Appeal” and will be asked to make an offering or a commitment. Many of you have already received envelopes in the mail. In the name of His Eminence and in my name I thank you for your kindness, understanding and generosity.
From the bottom of my heart I thank all the sponsors for their gifts for our lottery during our Parish Appreciation Party on Saturday, January 16th. Gifts were donated by: Józefa and Józef Rudziñski, of “J
