I greet all on this Feast of Pentecost which is the commemoration of the great event in the Upper Room fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus. About nine o’clock in the morning “there came a noise like a strong driving wind from the sky, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.”
This visible sign of the Holy Spirit accompanied an invisible transformation of all gathered. The Holy Spirit warmed their hearts and strengthened them so much that they were ready to go to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel.
Each of us who received the Sacrament of Confirmation is enriched with the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, courage, right judgment, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Thus, let the Holy Spirit strengthen each of us so that we bravely profess our faith, share it, defend it and live according to it.
In the name of all St. Constance parishioners we congratulate His Excellency Bishop Thomas Paprocki, who by the decision of Pope Benedict XVI, is elevated to the position of Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of Springfield, the capitol city of our State of Illinois. As many of you are aware Bishop Thomas Paprocki was the pastor of St. Constance Parish from 2001-2003, and for the last seven years has been an Auxiliary Bishop, the Episcopal Vicor of Vicariate IV, and of course the delegate of Cardinal Francis George for Polish concerns in the Archdiocese of Chicago. This past Monday, May 17th, in our church, Bishop Thomas Paprocki celebrated his farewell Mass to Polonia of Chicago. His farewell Service in the English language will be celebrated on June 7th at 7:00pm in St. Giles Church, 1025 Columbia Avenue in Oak Park, followed with a reception.
May is the month for the ordination of priests and the month in which many priests observe the anniversary of their ordinations. On Saturday, May 22nd, in Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago His Eminence Cardinal Francis George will ordain fourteen deacons to the priesthood. We wish them God’s blessings in fulfillinng their calling to the priesthood with a deep faith, eagerness and dedication. I ask all to pray for their intentions.
Remember in your prayers the priests who are celebrating the anniversaries of their ordinations that they continually grow in the grace of God and people. On May 2nd, Father Martin Borowczyk observed his 68th anniversary of ordination; on May 10th, Father Thomas Rzepiela observed his 38th anniversary of ordination; on May 10th Bishop Thomas Paprocki observed his 32nd anniversary of his ordination; on May 17th Father Maciej Galle observed his 2nd anniversary of his ordination; on May 21st I, Father Thaddeus Dzieszko observed my 22nd anniversary of ordination; on May 24th Father Robert £ojek will observe the 7th anniversary of his ordination.
May the Holy Spirit enlighten all with his light and lead all on the right road.
