Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Trinity. Although in all of Scripture--the Old and New Testaments--we do not have even one description of the Holy Trinity, we know that the teaching about the Holy Trinity is included in the comments of Jesus. Before his departure from this world Jesus gave the Apostles the command: “Go and make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” “The man who believes in and accepts baptism will be saved; the man who refuses to believe in it will be condemned.” One cannot be a Christian who is not baptized. You can be baptized only in the name of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit. Knowledge of the Holy Trinity is and will remain a mystery; maybe we will come to understand it in eternity. Although we attribute the work of creation to God the Father, the work of redeeming to the Son, and sanctification to the Holy Spirit, we know that the Three Holy Persons perfectly cooperate with one another and constitute true unity.
Tomorrow we will celebrate “Memorial Day” or the day we remember who gave their lives to defend their country. This is a civil holiday whose aim is to commemorate those who died defending the United States. It is always celebrated on the last Monday in May. Traditionally on this day bishops and priests celebrate Mass for all deceased in the cemeteries of Chicago. I invite all to our concelebrated bilingual Mass with our priests at 9:00am in our church.
All members of the Parish Council are reminded of a meeting on Thursday, June 3rd, at 7:00pm in Father Martin Borowczyk Hall. I ask all for your prayers for the intention of Father Borowczyk, a former Pastor of our parish, for whom our hall is named. As you know, Father Martin is 93 years old, lives at St. Benedict Home in Niles, and the state of his health is fading.
