Dear Parishioners and Friends of the Parish Jun 6, 2010
Rev. Thaddeus (Ted) Dzieszko

Jesus, on leaving this world, left in his last words his will to the Apostles and to all of us: The assurance of his constant presence among us. With love for us he left his presence under the forms of bread and wine in thousands of churches throughout the world. In order to fulfill this, during the Last Supper he took bread in his hands, blessed it, broke it and gave it to the Apostles saying: “This is my Body to be given for you, do this in remembrance of me.” He did the same with the cup, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you”. We owe thanks to St. Juliana of Liege, Belgium for bringing into the Church the Feast of Corpus Christi. In his mystical revelation Jesus asked Juliana for the added feast of celebrating the Blessed Sacrament. St. Juliana revealed this to Jakub Panteleon, who on August 29, 1262, became Pope Urban IV. In the year 1264 Pope Urban IV issued the bull “Transiturus” establishing the feast of Corpus Christi on Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and gave indulgences to the faithful present at Mass and devotions that day. At the request of the Pope special services were composed by St. Thomas Acquinas. The following Pope, Clement IV, confirmed the feast, but not until the pontificate of Pope John XXII (1316-1334) was Corpus Christi celebrated with a procession and the carrying of the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament. The first Corpus Christi procession took place in St. Geron Church in Cologne. In Poland the first procession took place in Cracow in 1320 on the recommendation of the local bishop, Bishop Nankera. In the United States, for practical reasons, the Conference of Bishops transferred this feast to the Sunday after the feast of the Holy Trinity. I pray that Father Robert had a pleasant vacation and is ready to prepare himself to take the position of Pastor of St. William Parish. Father Robert will celebrate a “Farewell Mass” in the English language on Saturday, June 26th, at 4:30 in the afternoon; and in the Polish language on Sunday, June 27th, at 1:30 in the afternoon. Following each of the Masses a reception, prepared by parish organizations, will take place in Father Martin Borowczyk Hall. I take this opportunity to inform all that I recently received a letter from Cardinal Francis George informing me that our new Associate will be Father Ryszard Groñ, who at the present time is an Associate at St. Thomas of Villanova Parish in Palatine. Parents who are looking for an excellent school for their children are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the programs offered at our St. Constance Parish Grammar School. The school also offers a high-level preschool. A friendly atmosphere prevails in our school. In this atmosphere the children learn the Catholic religion, they gain knowledge, and deepen their faith. I ask you to call our school at 773-283-2311 for additional information and to arrange a tour. Come and discuss with our School Principal Eva Panczyk or the Secretary Agata Kasprzyk. They will explain to you all about our school. If your children are attending public school and want to learn their religion, we offer a Religious Education Program in both the English and Polish languages. For more information call Sister Elizabeth Barnowska at 773-283-5939. May Jesus bless us all and our guests who visited us today.
