Greetings to all on this thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today we listen intently to St. Luke’s Gospel which tells of the planned visit of Jesus to a Samaritan village which did not accept Him because the destination of His journey was Jerusalem. James and John were ready to punish the residents of Samaria by sending down fire from heaven. Jesus teaches that it is not necessary to administer violence, but love and forgiveness. This is a more effective instrument and weapon to fight the enemy. Let us ask ourselves: How do we behave if someone does not give something to us, if someone opposes us, if someone wrongs us, if everything does not go according to our thinking? How much of real tolerance is in us, and what about love, kindness and forgiveness, in relation to believers of other religions? Today we bid farewell to Father Robert £ojek who has served us at our St. Constance Parish for six years. The time has really passed quickly. I wish to thank him for his cooperation, for his smile, work, faith, kindness, openness and willingness to help others. We will miss him, and I hope that from time to time he will visit us. Once again, I congratulate him on his promotion as Pastor of St. William Parish. This coming Sunday Father Robert will be greeting his new parishioners. I think that he will invite us to the celebration of his installation. St. William Parish is near Harlem and Grand Avenues. The address is 2558 North Sayre Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60707. This coming Sunday we will be greeting our new Associate Pastor Father Ryszard Groń, who comes to us from St. Thomas Villanova Parish in Palatine where their pastor, Father Thomas Rzepiela is well-known to us. Father Ryszard originally comes from the Diocese of Wrocław in Poland. He has been in the United States for many years, is fluent in English and Polish, and is in the process of incardination for the Archdiocese of Chicago. This coming Sunday Father Ryszard will introduce himself and preach at all Masses. Come and greet our new Associate Pastor. Unfortunately, I also have some sad news. The rainstorm that passed over our city on Friday, June 18th, also affected our rectory. Old caulking and walls destroyed by frost allowed water into many places. Today already, in certain rooms plaster and paint are falling. Although the parish rectory looks well on the outside it requires immediate attention. Our last Finance Committee and Parish Pastoral Council meeting took place with a representative of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We are in the process of studying the project of repairing the outside walls of the building. Today we know that this will be a costly project and we will ask all of you for offerings toward this goal. If anyone wishes to make an offering toward this goal, please come to the parish office.
