Today as we listen intently to the Gospel according to St. Luke we hear of the appointing of an additional seventy-two disciples. Jesus knew that there was a great need. That is why he said, “the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” Jesus gave them all instructions about what they were to do in situations when they are received kindly, or if they are not received at all. We are aware that the words of Jesus are always current.
We often admire missionaries going abroad. Yet in our area there are truly great needs and possibilities for missionary work. Following the thoughts given by our own Archdiocese, regarding Catholics who after many years return home -- that is to the Church -- I would like to organize a committee of missionary volunteers who would dedicate a few or more hours of their time to reach out to residents of our neighborhood extending to them an invitation for mutual prayer. Our parish missionaries will go out in groups of three individuals in order to knock on doors and say: “We are from St. Constance Parish and we invite you to mutual prayer. We are bringing you an invitation from our pastor and our entire parish family.” In case no one is home the beautiful invitation can be left in the entranceway. Those willing can contact me, or Connie Schiltz at 847-683-5040.
This coming weekend at the request of the Mission Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago we will have as guests Franciscan Missionaries who will share with us the experience of their missionary work and at the same time will ask for our prayers and financial support.
I welcome to our St. Constance Parish Father Ryszard Groñ our new Associate Pastor. I hope that he feels at home with us, and that he would soon conclude the process of incardination and become a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
This year Independence Day, the fourth of July, occurs on Sunday. On Sunday we will thank God for the gift of freedom for the United States and pray and ask God for peace for people of the whole world.
On the last weekend of the month, July 24th and July 25th, we will host the vocal group Faustynki from Poland. The group is together for many years under the leadership of Rev. Jan Œmigasiewicz. They will sing at all Masses in the English and Polish languages. The singing group will travel with its repertoire all over the world, and has many religious songs on CDs. Everyone will be able to purchase these recordings after each Mass in the parish hall.
I am pleased to inform you that the Chairpersons of this year’s Parish Dinner Dance, Saturday, October 9th, are Marie Blecka, our Music Director, and Kazimierz Milewski, the President of Polonia Club.
