In today’s Gospel Jesus speaks of his second coming, also of the reward that awaits those who lead a good and trustworthy life, and of the punishment for those who are unfaithful. The coming of Jesus comes unexpectedly, as when a thief comes unexpectedly under the cover of darkness. That is why we should always be ready for this most important meeting. We know that this meeting follows the moment of death. None of us know when death will occur -- some children die, youthful boys and girls, young mothers and fathers, those who are still needed and have important obligations to fulfill.
Many a time people who are ailing and those in advanced years are waiting for death. Death is a great mystery, and at the same time an important meeting with God upon whom all eternity is dependent. Ask yourself: Am I ready to meet God if death would come to me today or tomorrow? If you are not ready, make a firm decision today to change the way you live your life.
