Dear Parishioners and Friends of the Parish Aug 22, 2010
Rev. Thaddeus (Ted) Dzieszko

Sincere greetings to all our parishioners and guests. In today’s Gospel according to St. Luke Jesus teaches us how to live so that some day we will be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The narrow gate that leads us to heaven is the way of love, prayers, renunciation, everyday problems and obligations, and dedication to God and neighbor. A wide gate which leads to loss is the way of debauchery, pride, greed, jealousy, immoderate eating and drinking, laziness, not forgiving, and anger. Ask yourself: Which way am I going and through which gate am I entering? On Thursday, August 26th, we will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa. We honor one of the oldest icons of the Mother of God in the world. Tradition tells us that it was painted by St. Luke on the table of the Holy Family. Since the year 1382 this icon has been in Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, Poland. The picture was damaged during a robbery assault in the year 1430, the result of which is a cut from a sword on the cheek of the Blessed Mother. In the chapel of this miraculous painting at Jasna Góra, not only simple people pray, but also kings, popes, presidents, primates, film stars and famous people from all over the world. In the book of miracles are written the testimony -- under oath -- of many people, writing of their cures from otherwise incurable physical and spiritual illnesses. In our church in the Divine Mercy Chapel we have a copy of the picture of Our Lady of Częstochowa painted by Maria Torwird which was blessed by the Polish Primate Cardinal Joseph Glemp. This coming Sunday, August 29th, in harmony with our American tradition, we will have a second collection to help the Church in Poland. The result of this collection is dedicated for the upkeep of the Polish Pontifical College and the Polish Pontifical Institute in Rome, as well as the Polish Seminary in Paris. In these institutions a staff of professors for the Seminaries are educated. This year help is especially crucial because Poland was afflicted with a wide scale of disasters. On Sunday, August 29th, our family picnic at “Bunker Hill” will begin with Mass at 11:00am. Come with your families. It will be a day for families to get together for a happy beginning of a new school and REP year 2010/11. Many thanks to Sister Bożena Błąd and all volunteers and sponsors who organized this picnic. Pray for good weather and we will see you their! Parents who are still looking for a great preschool and grammar school for their children are invited to acquaint themselves with the excellent programs offered in our St. Constance Parish School. Parents looking for a school of Polish language and culture are invited to the St. Maximilian M. Kolbe School. Children attending public schools are offered two Religious Education Programs, one in the English language and one in the Polish language. Registration for the Religious Programs and for the Polish School will take place next Saturday, August 28th. On September 12th missionaries from Jamaica will be in our parish. We will hear about their work among the poorest of the poor, and hear compositions and arrangements of their music and song. Father Richard Ho Lung founded the Congregation of Missionary Brothers of the Poor in 1981. Today this congregation has 500 brothers in 8 countries of the world. More information on this subject can be found on www.missionariesofthepoor.org May Our Lord Jesus bless us all and our guests who visited us today.
