Today Christ gives special words to us - difficult words requiring a deeper understanding: “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” We are all convinced that Christ desires people to love and respect one another, and here we hear words of hatred. It is not necessary to take this literally, that faith in Christ requires hatred of our near ones. Complete following of Christ requires putting Him in first place, even before our closest family members. If it would happen that the family or friend insists on renunciation of Christ and His teachings, then we should renounce family or friend. Christ is our Savior, who is with us not only during our life on earth, but desires our everlasting happiness. Only He has the power to give us this happiness.
