From the Pastor’s Desk

In a certain parish, the sacrament of Confirmation was being conferred.  In the central nave of the church, the candidates awaited the coming of the Bishop who would confirm them.  Upon his arrival, the Bishop approached one of the young ladies and asked,” What is your name?”” Mary,” the girl answered very nervously.  The bishop continued,” Can you tell me, Mary, what we say when we make the Sign of the Cross?”  Seeing her hesitation, the bishop tried to help by beginning aloud,” In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the…”” Mother,” finished the girl.” What a lovely description of the Holy Spirit,” noted the Bishop.” He is truly like a mother.  He is the Comforter Who always supports us and protects us from evil.  It is the Holy Spirit Who remembers and heals and strengthens us.”

Today our church transforms itself into the Upper Room where, along with Mary, we await the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Let us thank God the Father and God the Son for their gift of the Comforter and let us open wide our hearts to His guidance.

In two weeks, on the 23rd of June, we will celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi.  At St. Constance we will offer a solemn bi-lingual Mass at 1:30pm with the Eucharistic procession to four altars.  I ask our valuable volunteer parishioners to prepare the altars as usual.  All children are invited to strew flower petals during the procession and all parish organizations and clubs are invited to march in procession behind their banners.    Let the feast of Corpus Christi be another manifestation of our faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
