This Week Letter – June 28, 2020
Brother and Sister,
If you love Him tell Him so.
The kind of love that God requires of us is not easy. Jesus never pretended that it was. He immediately added that he who loves anyone or anything more than Him IS NOT WORTHY OF HIM, and he who does not take up his cross to follow Him IS NOT WORTHY OF HIM.
To love God means sacrifice, just as His love for us required sacrifice, that is the gift of self. Do not be afraid. God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to lay down His life so we might have life eternal. Thus are we taught to love.
In today’s Mass Jesus again gives Himself to us in love, saying “THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN UP FOR YOU”. Before we receive Him in communion, we pray: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” God wants these words spoken so that we might be worthy to receive Him. But they make a demand of our true love for God. ur It is for us, above all, to tell Him in response: “THIS IS MY BODY, THIS IS MY LIFE, GIVEN FOR YOU, PLEASE receive IT.”
Best wishes. Call if you have something to discuss.
